Sometimes, healing is not just about medicines, therapies, or treatments—it’s also about finding balance, meaning, and joy in life, even during the hardest times. Our client, Seema Govil, is a shining example of this truth
When Seema joined our program under the guidance of our Head Nutritionist and Lifestyle Expert, Nikita Bansal Dalmia, she was in the middle of her cancer journey.
What she found was not just a nutrition plan, but an integrative path that, while supporting her ongoing treatment, also helped her embrace the power of her mind, body, and spirit.
Recalling her journey, Seema shares, “My experience with Luke’s program—especially working with nutritionist Nikita—has been exceptional. The well-designed program is anchored in science and research, not myths or hearsay. It is practical, compassionate, and prioritizes the health and well-being of cancer patients throughout treatment.”
“Nikita was incredibly detailed, efficient, patient, kind, and knowledgeable. She always had answers to my questions, and if she didn’t, she would consult the team and Luke himself to ensure I received the right information. I greatly appreciated being able to reach out anytime, along with our weekly calls that kept me accountable.”
Why Team Luke?
“I chose Luke’s team because of their holistic approach, addressing both mind and body. From Luke, I learned the importance of balance in life—there is no single magical pill for health. True healing comes from constantly balancing all aspects of life: food, exercise, sleep, meditation, journaling, community, breathing, prayers, relationships, grounding, and most importantly, a positive mindset. I am extremely thankful to Nikita, Luke, and the entire team for taking such wonderful care of me during one of the most difficult times of my life.”
Beautiful, isn’t it? Yet the crux of why we are sharing her journey is not limited to this powerful testimonial. It is to highlight how Seema, having gone through a life-altering health crisis herself, found the incredible strength to support others like her in their healing journeys. She does this through a beautiful project called Flowers of Joy.
The Birth of Flowers for Joy
At a time when life felt overwhelming, flowers brought her a sense of peace and joy.
“When I revisited the infusion room where I had my very first chemo session, I was listening to Luke’s Zoom talk on balance. As I arranged flowers, his words played in my earphones. The timing was truly a gift. It grounded me in what could have been a very emotional moment. His message has stayed with me ever since.”
Seema talks about the beginnings of this amazing initiative, “Flowers for Joy holds a very special place in my heart. This initiative was born from my own journey through chemotherapy and radiation. During that time, the flowers I received from friends and family became a source of unexpected comfort. They weren’t just decorative pieces; they filled my space with color, warmth, and a quiet strength. I often found myself simply sitting with them, meditating, letting their presence reconnect me to nature. They reminded me that beauty still existed outside the sterile walls of the clinic.”
“As I progressed through my treatments, I began to feel a deep urge to pass this feeling on to others. I spoke to the nurses at my clinic and shared my idea—what if I could bring fresh flowers to patients undergoing chemo and radiation, donated by local florists? The nurses loved the concept,” she adds.
So how does Flowers For Joy work?
Each week, Seema reaches out to local florists and grocery stores for flower donations. Every Monday, either she or a volunteer picks them up. These flowers last the entire week and are shared in simple but meaningful ways:
- Nurses or volunteers give one or two flowers to patients as they begin chemo sessions.
- They also save and present bouquets to patients on their ‘graduation’ days which mark the end of their treatment.
- A few of these flowers are placed at the nurses’ station and front desk so patients, caregivers, and staff can enjoy their beauty throughout the day.
What about allergy concerns? “These are easily managed, and volunteers willingly help distribute the flowers,” says Seema.
The response has been incredible. Nurses noticed patients feeling calmer and less anxious and shared how this simple gesture could provide an unexpected moment of joy. Many patients feel moved and surprised, often taking the flowers home with them.
“Along with the flowers, the nurses suggested including a poem I had written during my treatment journey. I had started this poem on my first day of treatments and completed it on my birthday. When I shared it with one of the nurses, she was so touched that she made 100 copies and placed them in the waiting area for patients to read. People found solace in those words, which is why we now bundle the flowers and the poem together, gifting them to patients as they settle into their chemo chairs. Since then, the poem has become part of Flowers for Joy—each flower is given with a copy, offering both beauty and words of comfort.”
Here’s a glimpse into Seema’s beautiful poem:
Was the journey to taking this beautiful initiative off the ground easy? No.
“While undergoing radiation, my husband and I started visiting florists to ask for support. It wasn’t easy at first, but slowly, generous hearts came forward. Florists often have flowers they can’t sell due to shelf life, but for our purpose, they are perfect. Some even attach notes like ‘Wishing you a wonderful and speedy recovery.’ Their kindness has been essential, and acknowledging their generosity encourages more florists to join in.
We officially launched Flowers for Joy just before Thanksgiving last year. For eight months now, we’ve delivered flowers every single week without fail, even expanding to another oncology center. Volunteers stepped in, offering their time and energy—it felt as though the universe was conspiring to keep this mission alive. The best part about this initiative is that all this is 100 percent anonymous.”
When patients ask who brought the flowers or wrote the poem, they’re simply told: “A volunteer.”
A few weeks ago, when Seema visited, a nurse smiled at her and said, “Oh, so you’re the flower fairy.”
“That moment felt so, so special,” shares Seema.
Speaking about how this project has given her a profound sense of joy and fulfillment, she adds, “It’s a small gesture, but I believe it plants a seed of hope, comfort, and positivity in the hearts of those navigating their battles with cancer. Through the simple beauty of flowers and the words of my poem, my wish is to remind them that beyond the hardships, there are still sunny skies and starry nights waiting for them.”
“This simple idea can be replicated anywhere in the world. If anyone feels inspired to start a similar initiative, I have all the necessary contacts and resources and would be happy to guide them through the process,” she adds.
“Beyond the flowers, my larger message is about inspiring hope and showing people how they, too, can contribute to someone else’s healing journey. It doesn’t have to be flowers—it can be any small gesture that brings comfort and joy to patients. I am sharing this story with Luke and all his followers in the hope that we can spark ideas and encourage more people to find their own meaningful ways to support others during such challenging times.”
