Before We Fix Disease, We Need to Teach Health: A Foundations-First Classroom for the Children of Bharat

Before We Fix Disease, We Need to Teach Health: A Foundations-First Classroom for the Children of Bharat

This Republic Day, January 26, 2026, we released something we’ve wanted to build for a long time, the first-of-its-kind free nutrition and lifestyle classroom designed for the children of Bharat.  Virtual. Practical. Culturally-rooted. Free to access. And easy to adopt.

We’ve spent years working with families and seeing the same pattern repeat: health advice is everywhere, but health education that a child can actually understand and follow is still rare. Too often, what reaches our homes is confusing, trend-driven, or built around extremes. Children don’t need that. They need common sense they can carry into everyday life, in school, at home, and in the choices they make as they grow.

That is why we built this special episode of Bharat Nutrition and Lifestyle Classroom. It is a free, structured session available on YouTube, designed to reach every home, school, and community across India.

When we teach children early, we don’t just change habits. We change trajectories.

Made in India. Heal in India.

Where This Really Began: A Call That Felt Like Responsibility

Some moments don’t feel like “work.” They feel like a reminder of why we chose this path in the first place. For us, one of those moments came at the end of February 2025. It had been a long day of consults. The kind of day where you’re listening deeply, problem-solving, and thinking about how health is shaped by everyday choices, not extremes.

Then we received a call that changed everything.

“At the end of February 2025, after a long day of consults, I received a call from the office of our Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s office. It wasn’t routine. The ask was clear: to create a Bharat-inspired dish and lifestyle framework aligned with his vision of a healthier Bharat. At that moment, it didn’t feel like work. It was a responsibility.” – Luke Coutinho

From that point, we knew this couldn’t be a one-day moment or a one-time announcement. It was seva (an act of service). If it was going to matter, it had to travel beyond a stage and into everyday life. Into homes and school communities. Into language that children could understand. Into classrooms where habits are shaped early, consistently, and for the long run.

The National Intent Became Clear (NXT Conclave 2025)

In the weeks that followed, that intent took a clearer shape at NXT Conclave 2025. We were invited by Shri Kartikeya Sharma, Hon’ble Member of the Rajya Sabha and Founder of the ITV Media Network, to come in as a keynote speaker on lifestyle and health. The conclave brought together 20+ global leaders and changemakers shaping the future, and we felt genuinely honored to represent this space on a national stage, not as a trend, but as something that affects every household, every classroom, and every community.

What stayed with us most was how unmistakable the guiding message became in the days that followed. Nutrition education matters, but it cannot stand alone. Lifestyle education must go alongside it. And together, they must become the core of health education that reaches not just urban audiences or a privileged few, but the grassroots of our country, starting with its children.

That clarity changed how we thought about what we were building. It had to be usable and easily understood. It couldn’t be niche. It had to be accessible. It couldn’t be a one-time resource. It had to become something Indians could return to, consistently, in a way that felt practical and culturally rooted.

The Timeline: What We Built Before the Classroom

Before we ever thought about a classroom session, we focused on building resources that could travel beyond a single stage and into the everyday lives of Indian families. Every decision leaned toward simplicity over sophistication, and wisdom over trends.

February 28, 2025: Bharat Dish + Bharat Nutrition and Lifestyle Plan

At NXT Conclave 2025, we unveiled the Bharat Dish and Lifestyle Tips, anchored by a familiar, nourishing pairing: millet khichdi and sattu kadhi. Alongside it came 100+ wholesome recipes, simple nutrition guidance, and lifestyle tips built around practical wellness habits.

Team Luke expanded access further by launching the Bharat Dish and Lifestyle Tips in 5+ languages. It is a free, downloadable offering designed for every Indian, helping them return to balance, nourishment, and common sense. We shared this widely across social media, anchored by a message that still guides everything we’re building: Made in India. Heal in India.

The initiative has since reached thousands, continuing to expand.

Delhi Anganwadi Immersion: Seeing the grassroots of nutrition up close

Around this time, we also visited Anganwadi centres in Delhi and witnessed Poshan Abhiyaan at the grassroots. Seeing early nutrition support in action, and the 24-language Poshan Tracker, reinforced something we already knew in our work with families: lasting health begins early, and children are where it starts.

March 2025: From a Bharat-inspired Plan to a Nation-wide Education Mission

On 1st March 2025, Luke met our Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji. His message to Luke was clear: “If we are to build a healthier Bharat, then we must begin with children and start at the very grassroots, because they are our future.”

This was yet another moment that propelled us to curate an offering available for every child of Bharat.

May 1, 2025: The Bharat School Menu and Lifestyle Plan (monthly)

On 1st May 2025, we then launched India’s first Bharat School Menu and Lifestyle Plan, a free monthly initiative offering balanced, child-friendly menus and simple lifestyle guidance in English and Hindi. It was designed to be simple, seasonal, and rooted in Indian food wisdom, curated specifically for young minds. The plan is inclusive, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options to support diverse Indian households.

The Classroom Came Alive and Now Reaches Every Home

Recognizing that awareness without continuity fades, on the 31st of May 2025, Team Luke then introduced free online weekend Bharat Nutrition and Lifestyle Classroom in English and Hindi, designed not as lectures, but as conversations with children and caregivers. These sessions were primarily led by Priyanka Vithlani, Meal Analyst and Foundational Medicine Expert at Team Luke.

Children also don’t need lectures. They need learning that feels like real life, and that means:

  • Stories they remember
  • Examples they can relate to
  • Conversations they can repeat at home and in school
  • Simple actions they can actually do the next day

That’s why we chose a classroom format. We built it to be consistent, accessible, and culturally familiar:

  • Simple language in English and Hindi keeps it age-appropriate
  • Exciting weekend sessions that children can look forward to
  • Culturally rooted anchors help it land across different Indian homes
  • Simple language and interactions to ensure wider access
  • One hour keeps it structured without overwhelming young minds

So we built a session that a child can watch, understand, and actually use the next day.

Why a Classroom, and Not Just a Downloadable Resource?

We’ve learned something important through years of working with families: awareness is a great start, but without continuity, it fades. A plan can be downloaded, saved, and even shared, but if it isn’t revisited, practiced, and reinforced, it remains information, not education. We wanted to take the next step to make learning interactive for kids.

On 26th January, 2026, a special edition of our Bharat Nutrition and Lifestyle Classroom was created as a free, hour-long online session, designed not as a seminar, but as a conversation, where children learn:

  • How to eat mindfully
  • Why movement matters
  • The importance of good sleep
  • Simple yoga practices for strength, flexibility, and calm
  • Emotional regulation and awareness
  • Listening to their body

“What you are seeing here is not a campaign or a project. It is a responsibility we felt deeply as Indians to contribute something meaningful to the future of our country.”

  • Luke Coutinho

The Teachers in This Classroom

This classroom session brings together experts from different disciplines, because children’s health is never one-dimensional. It’s food, movement, sleep, emotional strength, and the ability to steady themselves when life feels noisy.

The session features:

  • Luke Coutinho, Pioneer of Foundational Medicine, Lifestyle Expert, and Wellness Champion for the Hon. Prime Minister’s Fit India Movement
  • Priyanka Vithlani, Meal Planning Analyst & Foundational Medicine Expert
  • Shimpli Patil, Head of Training, Integrative and Foundational Medicine
  • Taarika Dave, Head of Yoga Vertical and Holistic Life Coach

Each of them brings a different lens, but the intent is the same: keep health education practical, age-appropriate, and culturally rooted, so children can build habits that actually stay with them.

Different disciplines, one shared goal: strong foundations, not temporary fixes.

What Children Will Learn: Five Modules in One Structured Session

We’ve kept this special session structured, child-friendly, and entertaining. These are simple ideas that they can remember, repeat, and practice at home and in school.

1) Balanced Nutrition

What ‘balanced’ actually means, in a way a child can understand:

  • Building a plate that includes enough nourishment, not extremes
  • Mindful swaps: Choosing healthy ingredients over packaged, highly processed foods
  • Choosing local foods and simple combinations that work in Indian homes
  • Learning mindful eating basics

2) Adequate Exercise and Movement

Movement is not a punishment. It’s how the body stays strong. We’ve covered the importance of:

  • Simple daily movement, even on busy school days
  • Play, walking, and grounding regularly. Consistency beats intensity
  • Easy screen-time breaks and posture resets that children can actually follow

3) Quality Sleep

Sleep is where repair, growth, and recovery happen. Together, we’ll learn from Luke:

  • Why a consistent bedtime supports energy, focus, and mood
  • Simple sleep habits children can practice:
    • A wind-down routine
    • Less late-night stimulation
    • Predictable timing (even on weekends, where possible)

4) Emotional Wellness

Because children feel deeply, even when they don’t have the words, Luke will teach them:

  • Naming emotions and building self-awareness, without shame
  • Simple tools that feel natural:
    • Breath awareness
    • Bonding with parents
    • Gratitude
    • Healthy boundaries (age-appropriate, practical)

5) Yoga

Yoga becomes a bridge that brings it all together. Taarika Dave, Team Luke’s Yoga Vertical Head, will safely teach children about:

  • Movement + breath + emotional steadiness
  • A few simple, safe routines children can practice consistently

This is not about perfection. It’s about building foundations early.

How Families, Schools, and Communities Can Use This

This Republic Day marks a new phase of the Bharat Nutrition and Lifestyle Classroom, introducing India’s first structured, curriculum-based, virtual lifestyle education program for children. The special classroom session is built on five pillars: nutrition, exercise and movement, sleep, emotional wellness, and yoga. From awareness to education. From sessions to structure. From inspiration to curriculum. It is free, culturally rooted, and age-appropriate, focused on foundations, not quick fixes.

We designed this classroom session to be easy to use, not just easy to watch. The more consistently children hear these messages, the more naturally they become habits.

Here are simple ways to bring it into everyday life:

    • Watch it as a family, and pick healthier habits to practice.
    • Use it in classrooms as a guided session, followed by a short discussion or activity.
    • Share it with school principals, teachers, and parent groups, especially where nutrition and lifestyle education are already being encouraged.
    • Pair it with our existing free resources so children can see the concepts on their plates and in their routines:

Small actions, repeated consistently, create the kind of health that lasts.

Final Word

This initiative has been championed since its inception by Shri Kartikeya Sharma, Hon. Member of the Rajya Sabha and Founder of the ITV Media Network, and Dr. Aishwarya Pandit Sharma, Chairperson of the ITV Foundation, whose support and endorsement have played a pivotal role in taking this vision forward.

The Bharat Nutrition and Lifestyle Classroom is now available free of cost on Luke’s official YouTube channel.

If this resonates with you, don’t keep it to yourself. Watch it, share it, and bring it into your home, your school, and your community. The earlier we teach children, the stronger the foundation we build for Bharat’s future.
