Kavita is not someone who gives up easily.

A senior analyst with the federal government of Canada, she had spent decades managing complexity, at work, at home, in life.

But in late 2021, something shifted in ways no spreadsheet or strategy could fix.

This is the story of Kavita. A woman who lost herself to menopause, grief, and a body that felt like it was working against her. And who found her way back, stronger than before.

When Your Body Stops Feeling Like Yours: Menopause Symptoms and Silent Decline

Perimenopause arrived quietly. Then menopause followed. And with it came a wave of health challenges she couldn’t outwork or outthink her way through:

  • Osteoarthritis eating away at her knees, forcing her to give up Kathak, the classical dance she had loved since childhood
  • Hypothyroidism, a companion for over 20 years, becoming harder to manage
  • A new asthma diagnosis and dependence on an inhaler
  • Daily acidity requiring pantoprazole every single day
  • Sleep that had to be engineered with brown noise, and a household kept silent while she rested
  • Weight that wouldn’t budge despite eating well and staying active, the scale sat stubbornly at 62 kg

For a body already dealing with so much, that felt like one more thing refusing to cooperate.

Grief, Loss, and the Year That Broke Her: Emotional Struggles Behind the Health Decline

In 2022, the physical battle became an emotional one, too.

Kavita’s father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Watching a parent decline while quietly managing your own health, while continuing to show up at work and for your family, is a weight that has no clinical name. But it is real, and it takes a toll.

  • Her father passed away in January 2023 from fourth-stage cancer.
  • Around the same time, Kavita had quietly stopped going to Kathak.
  • The arthritic pain had become too much. Cortisone injections offered some relief, but not enough. She began wearing knee braces just to exercise.
  • The dance she loved was slipping away.

“I went through a complete ‘low’ state of mind in 2022 when I was challenged to fight multiple emotional battles.”

She tried to manage everything on her own. She read. She researched. She adjusted her eating.

But general solutions weren’t working, because Kavita’s body, her history, her stress patterns, her grief, and her hormonal reality were entirely her own.

The Turning Point: Why She Finally Chose to Ask for Help

Returning to Kathak: Reclaiming a Life Through Lifestyle Changes for Menopause Health

After the program concluded in November 2024, Kavita did something she hadn’t done in years. She went back to Kathak.

Not because someone told her to.

Because the flame that had been quietly burning, through the pain, the grief, the weight, the sleepless nights, had never actually gone out. Her body had just needed to be ready.

“There was always that ‘pilot’ flame deep in my heart to go back to it. Once again, I have confidence in myself, my ability to learn, my ability to overcome my limitations, and to push myself to realize my dreams.”

And Palak, who watched every step of the journey, puts it simply: “Watching her get back to Kathak, which she loved, has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve experienced as a practitioner. She truly is the star client one can ask for. We are now good friends.”
